Ubersuggest's data sometimes disagrees with GSC, Ahrefs, or your own analytics. The trap is assuming the tool is broken. This walks through the common discrepancy patterns and what each one actually means.
Who this is forMarketers paying for Ubersuggest who've noticed numbers don't match GSC, GA4, or other SEO tools. Before cancelling the subscription or assuming the platform is broken, run this diagnostic.
What you'll need
Step 1
Project Settings → check Country + Language. If wrong, all data is wrong. Country is locked — you have to recreate the project to change it.
Open your project → Settings (gear icon).
Check the Country setting. If your audience is UK and country is US, every Volume, SD, and Rank Tracker number is based on US data. The data isn't 'wrong' — it just doesn't apply to you.
Check the Language setting. English (US) and English (UK) return different SERPs and keyword databases.
Country is locked at project creation. To change, delete the project (losing historical data) and create a new one with correct settings. Lose 30 days once; get the next 365 right.
Test the fix: search a keyword you know well in Keyword Ideas. Does the volume match your real-world expectation?
Step 2
Project → Integrations → check GSC status. If broken, reconnect. GSC integration is the most-broken setting in Ubersuggest.
Open Project → Integrations (in the project menu).
Confirm Google Search Console shows 'Connected.' If it shows 'Reconnect' or 'Expired,' the OAuth token has lapsed (common after Google account password changes).
Click Reconnect. Re-authorize Ubersuggest in the Google account flow.
Confirm the GSC property you connected matches the domain in the Ubersuggest project. A common error: connecting GSC for www.example.com to an Ubersuggest project tracking example.com (apex). Pick one canonical and match.
If GSC has been disconnected, your Ubersuggest project has been using estimated data for the disconnected period — meaningfully less reliable than GSC's real data.
Step 3
Site Audit pages crawled vs GSC Pages indexed. If off by 25%+, scope or sitemap is wrong.
Open Site Audit → note the 'Pages Crawled' number.
Open GSC → Pages → note the 'Indexed' count.
Within 15%: scope is right. Data should be reliable.
Off by 25%+: investigate. Either (a) Ubersuggest is missing URLs in your sitemap (add them and re-crawl), or (b) Ubersuggest is crawling URLs not supposed to be indexed (add to exclusion rules), or (c) the firewall is blocking Ubersuggest's bot on some URLs.
Spot-check 10 random URLs. Open in browser. Confirm Ubersuggest's reported status matches reality. If Ubersuggest shows 4xx but browser shows 200, the firewall is the issue.
Step 4
Ubersuggest underreports long-tail volume 20-50% vs Ahrefs/Semrush. This is a platform limitation, not a bug.
Pick 5 long-tail keywords (4+ words, niche topic) that GSC shows you ranking for and getting clicks on.
Look up each in Ubersuggest Keyword Ideas. Compare reported Volume against the actual clicks/month from GSC.
If Ubersuggest reports Volume = 0 or 'No data' but GSC shows 50+ clicks/month, you've found the platform limitation: Ubersuggest's long-tail keyword index is meaningfully thinner than Ahrefs or Semrush.
Workaround: trust GSC for your own site's long-tail traffic. Use Ubersuggest for competitor research where you don't have GSC access.
If you're a long-tail-focused content business, this gap matters — consider upgrading to Ahrefs.
Step 5
Rank Tracker → check Last Updated timestamp. If stale, force a re-check. Common cause: location/device mismatch.
Open Rank Tracker → check the 'Last Updated' column.
Default frequency is weekly. If the timestamp is 8+ days old on multiple keywords, click 'Update Rankings' to force a re-check.
If a single keyword reports a rank dramatically different from the live SERP (e.g., Ubersuggest shows #4, live SERP shows #18), it's usually a device or location mismatch.
Check the Rank Tracker settings: country, device (mobile/desktop), city/zip if local. Test the keyword in a live incognito Google search matching those settings. They should match within 1-3 positions.
If mismatch persists, the keyword's SERP may have AI Overview or other dynamic features that Ubersuggest measures differently. Flag, monitor weekly, and don't act on a single-keyword anomaly.
Step 6
Ubersuggest backlink counts are ~1/5 of Ahrefs. This is a platform limit. For deep backlink work, augment with Ahrefs or accept the gap.
Open Backlinks → enter your domain. Note the Total Backlinks + Referring Domains counts.
Open Ahrefs Site Explorer (free Ahrefs Webmaster Tools works for your own site) → enter your domain.
If Ahrefs shows 3-5x more backlinks than Ubersuggest, you've found the platform limit. Ubersuggest's backlink crawler is meaningfully smaller than Ahrefs' Yep crawler.
Workaround: use Ahrefs Webmaster Tools (free for verified domains) for your own backlink monitoring. Use Ubersuggest for competitor backlink research where the gap matters less.
If backlinks are a primary growth lever, the data gap likely justifies upgrading to paid Ahrefs.
Step 7
Pick 10 random keywords, URLs, or competitor metrics. Validate each against GSC, GA4, and a live Google search.
After running through the steps above, pick 10 random data points across Ubersuggest: 5 keyword volumes, 3 ranking positions, 2 backlink counts.
Cross-validate each: GSC for impressions/clicks/positions, GA4 for organic traffic, live Google for current SERP, Ahrefs Webmaster Tools (free) for backlinks.
Acceptable drift: within 15-20% on volume, within 1-3 positions on rank, within 10-15% on traffic estimates.
Unacceptable drift: 50%+ difference on any single data point. That's a configuration or platform issue worth investigating further.
Document the validation. Repeat quarterly. If the platform consistently mis-reports your real data by 30%+, switch tools.
Common mistakes
Assuming Ubersuggest is "broken" when data disagrees
What goes wrong: You see Ubersuggest reporting volume of 800 vs Ahrefs at 3,500 for the same keyword. You conclude Ubersuggest is broken and cancel. Reality: it's a platform limitation, not a bug. You lose the subscription before diagnosing the cause and possibly switching for the right reason — $29-99/mo subscription gone plus 30 days of historical project data lost (~$200-400 of rebuild cost).
How to avoid: Run the diagnostic before cancelling. 80% of discrepancies are config issues (wrong country, GSC disconnected). 20% are real platform limits — those justify a tool switch only if the gap matters for your workflow.
Wrong country at project creation, never corrected
What goes wrong: You set country to US but your audience is UK. Every Volume, SD, and Rank Tracker number is US-context. You make 12 months of content decisions on the wrong data. ~$2,000-5,000 in misaligned content production.
How to avoid: Audit the country setting on Day 1 and at every quarterly review. If wrong, recreate the project. Lose 30 days of history once; get the next year right.
GSC disconnected for months without realizing
What goes wrong: Google account password changes invalidate the GSC OAuth token. Ubersuggest reverts to estimated data. You make content decisions on estimates for 3-6 months without knowing. Real GSC clicks are 30-50% different than estimates suggested — $3,000-8,000 in misaligned content production over those months.
How to avoid: Check Integrations status monthly. Reconnect GSC immediately when disconnected. Set a calendar reminder.
Treating "No data" as evidence of zero opportunity
What goes wrong: Ubersuggest reports 'No data' on a long-tail keyword. You dismiss the keyword and skip writing about it. GSC shows the keyword drives 80 clicks/month for a competitor. You missed a topic that was within your reach — typically $500-1,500 per missed topic in annual organic value, multiplied across the long-tail.
How to avoid: 'No data' in Ubersuggest = Ubersuggest doesn't have data. Always cross-check with GSC (for your own site's terms) and Google Trends. Validate before dismissing.
Single-data-point overreaction
What goes wrong: One keyword's rank jumps from #4 to #28 overnight. You assume the page is broken or penalized. You spend 6 hours investigating. Reality: the SERP added an AI Overview feature; Ubersuggest measured the change but the page itself is fine — ~$300-700 in founder/specialist time wasted on a ghost issue.
How to avoid: Single-keyword anomalies are usually SERP changes, not site issues. Wait 7 days. If 3+ keywords in the same cluster move together, then investigate. Single-keyword noise isn't signal.
No quarterly data audit
What goes wrong: You set up Ubersuggest in Q1, never validate the data against GSC again. By Q3 the GSC integration broke, country defaults drifted, and rank-tracking went stale. You're making decisions on bad data for 6 months — typically $4,000-10,000 in writer fees and roadmap time aimed at the wrong targets.
How to avoid: Block 30 minutes quarterly for a data audit. Run the 7-step diagnostic above. Document the validation. Catch drift early.

Diagnosing data gaps requires SEO judgment, not just troubleshooting. A vetted technical SEO specialist on EverestX will diagnose, fix, and own the data hygiene weekly — typically $400-800/mo at $14-16/hr. Usually cheaper than the time you'd spend solo.

Volume estimates use different data sources and modeling. Ubersuggest tends to underreport long-tail by 20-50% and matches Ahrefs within 10-20% on head terms. Neither is 'right' — both are estimates. Trust GSC over either when you have it.
Usually not. Common causes: SERP added a new feature (AI Overview, Featured Snippet) that shifted the visible 'position 1.' Wait 7 days and check 3+ keywords in the same topic cluster. If only one moved, it's a SERP-feature shift, not a site issue.
No. Country is locked at project creation. To change, delete the project (losing historical data) and create new. Pick carefully the first time.
Ubersuggest's backlink crawler is roughly 1/5 the size of Ahrefs'. Smaller domains and recently-built links may not be in the index yet. For complete backlink visibility on your own site, use Ahrefs Webmaster Tools (free for verified domains).
Quarterly minimum. Plus anytime numbers feel 'off' for a week or more, or after a Google update. 30 minutes of validation catches drift before it costs content production cycles.
